KRISTEVA COAT, 2022
Latex, silicone, rattan, plastic bag, seeds. US Size 8
Kristeva Coat, a garment of hand-sewn latex, looks to fulfill the desire to project and confront the abject horror of the female body and reproduction out into the inhabited world. Kristeva Coat's design, perverting the baby doll nightgown with the trench coat, pulls inspiration from cinema, including Rosemary's Baby (1986) and The Double Life of Véronique (1991)- critical films within the discourse of feminist-horror/drama. The latex is an essential material as it brings forward histories of fetish, queer identity, and the institution of medicine.
